My Alphabet Stories - Hadiqat ul Atfal
My Alphabet Stories - Hadiqat ul Atfal
HOW DO I GET STARTED
Read the stories to the child.
Read slowly and with a clear emphasis on the words that begin with the alphabet specific to each story.
Ask the child to repeat the alphabet specific words.
Once the child is familiar with the story, seat them beside you so they can look at the words as you read.
Encourage them to point to the alphabet specific words (the first letter of which is highlighted in red).
Explain some of the words to the child, but keep the explanations short and simple.
The stories are meant to be enjoyed together.
BEFORE READING
Look at the letter of the alphabet together: uppercase as well as lowercase.
Make sure that the child recognizes it.
Ask the child for words that start with the letter.
DURING AND AFTER READING
These stories are meant to be read to the child. Children absorb the rhythm and sounds of language. The vocabulary is tailored to stories that are meant to be read to children. Many of the words used are beyond their reading ability but will grow their spoken vocabulary.
Some stories lead to class projects, such as making a yoyo or demonstrating how a volcano erupts. Others lead to learning more about an animal or a place, some of which are exotic and some close to home. The latter can even lead to field trips. Thus, they open the door to fun in class and at home!
